Sequence of movement
Both hands are loosely enclosed by the hands of the deafblind person being addressed. The active hand now detaches itself. It first draws a smiley on the back of the hand of the person addressed, first showing the mouth and then both eyes at the same time. This is done by forming the index and middle fingers into a kind of V and then bending the fingers. The two fingertips are then used to place the eyes of the smiley on the back of the hand. Then form a loose flat hand with the hand that previously drew the smiley. The palm of this hand is placed on the back of the hand of the person being addressed. By making several small movements in the wrist, one's own hand is now turned back and forth over the edge of the hand in such a way that sometimes the palm, sometimes the back of the hand loosely touches the back of the hand of the person being addressed. (This movement is similar to the ASL gesture for "interpreter").

The tip of the index finger is used to draw a smiley on the upper arm of the person being addressed, starting with the mouth and then representing the two individual points for the eyes. The hand is then made into a loose flat hand. This is placed with the palm on the upper arm of the person being addressed. Through several small movements in the wrist, the hand is now turned back and forth over the edge of the hand so that sometimes the palm, sometimes the back of the hand is loosely touching the upper arm. (This movement is similar to the ASL gesture for "interpreter").
